Inspired by Kerala's lungi and mundu

  • Double-sided fleece
  • One size · 28–44 inch waist
  • Lungi by day, blanket by night
  • Inspired by Kerala
  • Small batch, made to order

One rectangle, three uses

Wrap it. Fold it. Throw it over you.

Loungie is one piece of thick, double-sided fleece, cut like a lungi. Close it at the waist and wear it all evening, then undo it when you want a blanket.

    1

    Full length for lounging

Ankle length, wrapped and fastened. Sofa, telly, tea. Stays put while you sit.

  2. 2

Folded to the knee for moving about

Lift the hem and tuck it at the waist, the way Kerala men tuck up a lungi. Kitchen, stairs, bins.

    Unfastened as a blanket

Undo it and it lies flat as a sofa throw. No sleeves, no hood, no fuss.

  • Double-sided flannel fleece

Soft on both sides, with a cable texture. Single layer, so it drapes and folds like cloth.

  • One size, 28–44 inch waist

A wrap, not a waistband. It adjusts to you, and it's unisex.

  • The kara stripe

A coloured border near the hem, borrowed from the Kerala mundu.

  • No tying needed

Closes at the waist with a hidden fastening. Two hidden press studs keep it on.

Our story

A Malayali in Paisley missed his lungi.

Scottish winters needed fleece. So I made both.

In Kerala, the lungi is what you wear at home: one length of cloth, wrapped at the waist, tucked up to the knee when you need to move. In Scotland it's too cold for thin cotton. Loungie keeps the shape and the fold-up, and swaps the cotton for thick fleece.

Being prototyped now

Two ways to close it. You help us pick.

Both keep the fastening hidden, so the outside looks clean. We're testing each one for staying up, sitting, stairs and speed. The winner goes into production.

Option 1

Velcro wrap

A smooth woven waistband with Velcro on the band only, never on the fleece. A fold-over flap covers the hook side in blanket mode. Adjusts to any waist.

Option 2

Waist-zip wrap

A short 15–20 cm zip closes the overlap at the waist, like a skirt zip, hidden under the top layer. A drawcord or back stretch panel does the tightening.

Photos show prototypes and concept images. Final details may change after testing.

  • Tartan kara

Optional extra

The green pocket belt

Inspired by the Velcro pocket belt Kerala men wear over a mundu or lungi. Phone in one pocket, keys in the other.

  • Width 7–9 cm
  • Material Soft green webbing
  • Pockets Two zip pockets
  • Closure Velcro, hook side outwards so it never touches the fleece

Questions

Good to know

Anything else? Email us and a real person replies.

What is a lungi?

A lungi is a length of cloth wrapped around the waist, worn at home by men across Kerala and South India. Loungie keeps the shape and the fold-up-to-the-knee move, and swaps thin cotton for thick fleece.

Will it fit me?

Loungie is one size and fits waists from about 28 to 44 inches. It's a wrap, so you adjust it each time you put it on. It's about 150 cm wide and 105–115 cm long, roughly ankle length.

How does it stay up?

A hidden fastening at the waist, plus two hidden press studs that hold it while you lounge. We're testing two closures (a Velcro wrap and a short waist zip) and will make the one that holds best.

Is it for men or women?

Both. It's unisex and one size.

How do I wash it?

We're wash-testing the fabric now. Full care instructions will be on the sewn-in label and on this page before anything ships.

When will my pre-order arrive?

Every pre-order ships by 5 December. If we miss that date, you get a full refund, no questions asked.

Can I return it?

Yes. You can cancel within 14 days of receiving it, and we'll refund you within 14 days of getting it back. See our refund policy.

What's the pocket belt?

An optional 7–9 cm soft green webbing belt with two zip pockets, inspired by the pocket belts Kerala men wear over a lungi. It closes with Velcro, hook side outwards so it never touches the fleece.
